Safety signage is a must have for every business. This kind of signage delivers extremely  important information to your visitors and employees about safety hazards, which can be life threatening in certain situations. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration lists three types of signs you need to have in your business: Caution, Warning and Danger signs. These progress with each level, so it is key to take note of their differences.

Level One – Caution Signage

This type of safety signage is used for indicating minimal to moderate risk in the workplace, and is presented with black letters on a white or yellow background. These signs can also incorporate symbols like exclamation points and simple, straightforward images. When workers see this signage, they should be aware that there is a slight chance of injury and they should proceed with caution.

Level Two – Warning Signage

Warning signage designates a higher risk level, and should be used in areas where serious injury or death are conceivable. In accordance with OSHA, this kind of safety signage needs to have black letters on an orange or white background. Symbols and images may also be utilized to convey potential dangers. When workers and visitors encounter this signage, they should know there is a severe risk to their health present and they should only move forward with an equal level of caution.

Level Three – Danger Signage

This level of safety signage poses the highest threat to your workers and visitors. These signs require either red or black letters on a white background. As with the other two types of safety signage, symbols and images can also be used. These signs should communicate that there is an extreme, impending hazard close by that could cause serious injury or death. Workers should only proceed with safeguarding equipment or other added protection.
